Why hello!

Shoku/radio will be returning in early January 2008! While I've been itching to create new episodes, life in Tokyo is extremely busy, not to mention winter break is right around the bend. Thanks for listening to all the older episodes, though! The next episode will probably be a half hour of talk and music, plus a short talk on Metronome's late December live at Shibuya. If anyone has any suggestions, questions, requests, send them to shokuradio@podomatic.com~~~~

Leaves are starting to fall, the days are becoming a bit less offensively hot -- that means, of course, that school is once again starting in Tokyo. Shoku/radio's going on a little hiatus until October. While the Japanese may not celebrate Halloween like we do in the States, there are MANY awesome themed concerts and club nights, including my personal favorite Tokyo Dark Castle. Expect uber coverage.

There will be tons of new releases and indies & major music to look foward to, plus concert reviews and alerts on underground bands I stumble upon. Stay tuned. Send me a line if you're in Tokyo area.

Send all messages to shokuradio@podomatic.com, or on this blog.

<3s,   -J.

Episode 14 features a talk piece on the life of one of the most influential movers and shakers of the visual kei indies scene, Kisaki. His name is universally know, whether from his contribution of Matina and the many bands he has played in and contributed to the success of (Phantasmagoria, Vidoll, 12012, HISKAREA...).

Have an opinion on Kisaki? How do you feel about the music he has made, the bands he has been in? Do you absolutely love Phantasmagoria -- or think monkeys could make better music, banging their fists on tree trunks? Whatever is it, however you feel about Kisaki, that's what I'd like to know.

Call in -- the mailbox number is (206) 202-4941, and leave a message with your thoughts and opinions. We'll play your comments on the show this coming week. Please say who's calling and from what state or country.

EDIT: A new number --- the old one has glitches, please call: 206-339-3286!

Wanna play with me?   ^_~

I'm looking for one or two amiable people with a good sense of humor to do segments on the show! SHOKU/radio has a huge listener base, and I'm thrilled and stunned that it's beginning to reach so many jrock fans even beyond the States.

Here are the requirements:

  1. Must have a decent computer microphone and knowledge of how to record an mp3 of voice. I recommend at least a beginner's knowledge of the program Reaper. If you don't have prior recording experience, let me know and I will teach you.
  2. Must be available to do a 2-5 minute segment at least once a month until the end of August 2007.
  3. Must have a love of Japanese rock and a want to learn more about its various niches.
  4. You'll be writing and recording segments on bands, events, lives, current topics, or whatever you want, so be ready to have a good, fun time on the show!

To apply, please send the following information to J @ shokuradio@podomatic.com:

  1. Name or nickname
  2. Age
  3. What got you into jrock? What do you find so interesting about it?
  4. Do you have at least a beginner's knowledge of voice recording?
  5. What kind of segments would you be interested in writing and recording for SHOKU/radio?
  6. Anything else you want to add?
  7. Is there really a spoon, Neo?

The cutoff application date is July 10th, but I recommend applying as early as possible.

SHOKU/radio's Episode 11 will be out tonight, with a feature on 12012!

Hey listeners -- due to imminent business in my life, the next Shoku/radio podcast will be Tuesday, April 24. It won't be The Mixer, but a fourth show, called Massive Attack, which will rotate with The Mixer, and will play only new releases!

Following that, everything will be back to normal again! Sorry for the silence, but you know how these things go. That following Sunday will be the Nagoya rock special, featuring the most creative and exciting rock bands (new and old) from the Nagoya prefecture of Japan.
